The Geography curriculum at Fleecefield builds children’s understanding of the physical world and human environments, they also learn how humans impact on the planet. Children develop their geography skills by using atlases, globes, arial photographs, digital maps and compasses. Children are encouraged to know about global issues and their impact on people and our world.

Geography knowledge is developed by a focus on the key concepts of:

• Locational knowledge

• Human and physical knowledge

• Skills and fieldwork

These concepts are built on and revisited for each topic taught ensuring children’s knowledge deepens and they are able to talk about their geographical learning.

Vocabulary enrichment runs through our whole curriculum and geography lessons provide an excellent opportunity to develop vocabulary which they can articulate in other areas of the curriculum.

Where possible, children will experience geography first hand through practical opportunities and visits.
